Fifth Grade State Report Project

Students’ task is to promote the state to visitors and future residents. 

What are significant features a state needs to promote to draw tourists?  What significant features will cause a state to successfully draw residents to stay in their state?

  1. What land and climate features of your state will draw people to visit or stay in your state?
  1. What are the most important landforms of your state and why?
  2. What are some of the major lakes and rivers and how do they affect tourism and residency?
  3. How does the average temperature affect the tourism and residency of your state?
  4. How much precipitation falls yearly in each part of your state?
  5. How does the climate affect the economy?

 

  1. Describe the economy of your state. (How do people make a living, how many people are emplyed, and how much money is made from each area?)
  1. What are the natural resources of your state and how does that encourage people to live there?
  2. How does the agriculture in your state affect the economy? (What do farmers grow? What animals do ranchers raise?)
  3. What are the main manufacturing and industries in your state?
  4. What attractions bring tourists to your state?

 

  1. Who are significant people from your state and how did they influence society?
  1. Who is a significant historical figure form your state?
  2. Who is an important entertainer form your state?
  3. Who is an interesting sports figure form your state?
  4. Who is an influential author form your state?

 

  1. Using illustrations and descriptions, show special features of your state.  All are required for your report. At least three of the following must be drawn by hand.
  1. The state bird. Why is it the state bird?
  2. The state flag. How does it represent your state?
  3. The state tree.
  4. The state flower.
  5. What is the state nickname and how did it come about?
  6. What is the state motto? What do you think about how the motto would draw residents?

When the write-up is completed you will use this order including an Introduction at the beginning then a conclusion tying the information together at the end.  Really pitch your state. Requirements for write-up.

3.1.2b Distinguish between fact and opinion; clarify point of view; identify main message and target audience

3.1.2c Compare advantages and disadvantages, suggest solutions, decide appropriate course of action

3.1.2d Investigate cause and effect relationships and their impact on people, environments, and economic systems

3.1.2f Assume and portray others’ points of view
