Welcome to the Stillwater Elementary weather station on the World Wide Web! All of us here at Stillwater, located in Carnation, Washington, are glad you’re with us and hope you come back often!

The concept of a "Weather web site" was first thought of back in 1998 by Bill Dumond, a Third grade teacher and founder of the Stillwater Elementary Radio Club. The idea was to design a local weather site that could be used as a teaching tool and information resource for Stillwater Students and the community at large.

Students and community members are welcome to browse the web site to learn about local weather conditions utilizing real time graphing tools and real time weather information. The weather station consists of weather instruments that are attached to the roof of the school (see picture, lower right) that feed real time data to a small "processor" (see picture, lower left). This instrument then transfers the data to a Windows NT web server running "WeatherView 32" software. As you can see, the weather graphics and data on this site are quite extensive and the software and hardware generating them are very powerful. All the data for all the weather categories is automatically updated every five minutes so it is a good idea to click the "Refresh" button on your browser every so often to keep the information on your screen current. More pages will be added as time goes by so feel free to check in often.

As with most projects of this magnitude, there are many people to thank for making it all happen. I especially want to thank Chris Everett for her wonderful, positive support. Also the financial contributions and enthusiasm given by the PTSA, the Stillwater Radio Club, community patrons and fellow colleague Cathy Cushman really helped make this an exciting project for me to develop.

Finally, a special thanks to Paul Censullo, our District Technology Director, for all his help getting the software installed correctly and running smoothly…not an easy task.
